Thinking Day Celebration

February 22nd of each year is a filled with meaningful thoughts from Gil Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world. Today, we honor the joint birthdays of Lord Baden Powell, the Founder of Scouting, and Lady Olave Baden Powell, our World Chief Guide, whose lives of love and services we remember with gratitude. The work begun by them is now our privilege to enjoy and our responsibility to continue.

Today, 10 millions Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 144 countries from Austria to Austrialia, from Chad to Chile, is celebrating World Thinking Day in some special way: starting the day at the highest part in their locality to watch the sunrise;praying for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts ththroughout the world; by putting their thoughts into action and raising money for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across the world.

On Thinking Day, distances shrink, age differences vanish, nationalities, cultures and needs blend, people stand united as kind thoughts, love and understanding circle the world. It is also a special time for our reaffirmation of the promise made and rededication to the challenges and task ahead. As the lines in our World Song go..."We must unite for what is right, to give to all both great and small all wecan give."

Thinking Day is not merely ritual; the idea is Thinking and Thinking should make us wan to take action. To them a good turn is an equally valuable gift. Thinking Day gifts take all forms: money, thoughts, actions. It is with sense of unying friendship among ourselves that we unite with those around us to thinkof those membersof the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts who are so far from us yet so close to us in our hearts. This is the moment to renew our efforts to strengthen our network of love, friendship and understanding to make this world a better and happier place to live in.

Thinking Day gives us a major opportunity to help each other through our voluntary efforts. It is for this reason that the Thinking Day Fund was conceived. Every centavo that we share will go a long way to support Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting programs all over the world. Our contributions will strenghten our existence as a World Association.
